BIKE
WEEK
June 9, to June 14, is “Bike Week”,
in Charlotte County. For you and I this promotes a
healthier, environmentally friendly and safer community.
Bike Week urges everyone to improve their health, lose
weight, save money, reduce pollution and save gas by
bicycling and walking. Citizens will be encouraged to
“Bike to Work, Shop and Play” to increase public
awareness of the benefits of cycling. To support this
initiative, the Punta Gorda Police Department will be
active with their Bike Patrol Officers and squad cars
during the week. To launch Bike Week there will be a
“No Spandex Allowed” leisurely bicycle ride around Punta
Gorda on Saturday June 7th starting at 8;30
am from the ACME Bicycle Store at 615 Cross Street,
Punta Gorda. This will be a leisurely, family orientated
ride with several short breaks for refreshments.
Hibiscus Bicycle Tours
Saturday June 14, in conjunction with
the Hibiscus Festival at Gilchrist Park, there will be
three Hibiscus Bicycle Tours around Charlotte County
with a 62 mile “Alligator Slide Ride” and 30 mile “Ponce
de Leon Tour”. These will be fully supported rides plus
a “City Manager’s Ride” led by Howard Kunik to visit
the new developments in Punta Gorda also visit the
“Secret Hibiscus Garden’s” of Punta Gorda. Commemorative
colorful “Cycling Jerseys” are available to participants
in the 62 and 30 mile tours plus free cycling socks,
water bottle, lunch, beverage and discount vouchers. In
the morning there will be FREE children’s events in the
park. These include bicycle safety instruction, bicycle
inspections and tire pressure checks. The State of
Florida will be there to provide 200 free bike helmets
to children.

please print a copy of the
Registration Form (.pdf / 218.5kb). Be sure to
circle the tour you intend to ride in, enclose a check
for the pre-enrolment fee, sign and date the form before
mailing. Please make checks payable to “TEAM Punta
Gorda”.
