Breastfeeding

Charlotte County WIC has a Certified Lactation Counselor and two Breastfeeding Peer Counselors available 24/7/365 to assist our breastfeeding moms with any concerns they may have.  In addition they provide Breastfeeding Classes and Mommy and Me Breastfeeding Support Groups several times a month.

Babies are Born to Breastfeed!
  • Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed human babies.  Infant formulas (artificial baby milks) are usually made from cow’s milk which is intended for baby cows!
  • Breastfeeding encourages the best brain growth and development in babies.  Breastfed babies are more likely to have higher IQ’s than infants who aren’t.
  • Breastfed babies are on-third less likely to die of “crib-death” (also known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS).
  • Breastfed babies have fewer illnesses and milder effects when illness does happen.
  • Breastfed babies are less likely to develop respiratory infections, ear infections, childhood diabetes, and certain types of cancers.
  • Breastfeeding helps your child’s facial structure develop correctly and can help your child look more attractive.  Breastfed babies are less likely to have dental caries or crooked teeth.
  • Breastfed babies are less likely to grow into overweight children.
